Overview

Gangotri National Park is a pristine sanctuary nestled in the northern Indian state of Uttarakhand. Spread over an expanse of approximately 2,390 square kilometers, this national park is renowned for its breathtaking natural beauty and rich biodiversity. The park is named after the sacred river Ganges, which originates from the Gangotri Glacier, one of the park’s prominent features.

The landscape of Gangotri National Park is characterized by rugged mountains, lush meadows, dense forests, and glacial rivers. It encompasses a wide range of altitudes, from about 1,800 meters to over 7,000 meters above sea level, making it home to diverse flora and fauna. The park boasts a variety of plant species, including alpine flowers, conifers, and rare medicinal herbs.

Some of the notable residents include Himalayan tahr, snow leopard, musk deer, Himalayan blue sheep, and a vibrant array of bird species, making it a haven for birdwatchers as well.

Day 1: Haridwar to Gangotri

Day 2: Gangotri Exploration

Day 3: Kedartal Trek
  • Begin your trek to Kedartal, a stunning glacial lake situated at an altitude of 4,750 meters.
  • The trek takes approximately 6-7 hours, offering breathtaking views and taking you through alpine meadows and rhododendron forests.
  • Set up your camp near Kedartal, enjoy dinner, and spend the night under the stars.
Day 4: Kedartal Exploration and Return to Haridwar
  • Explore the area around Kedartal, capturing mesmerizing views of Thalay Sagar peak and other surrounding mountains.
  • If you’re an experienced trekker, you can venture further to explore nearby glaciers and high-altitude landscapes.
  • Start your descent back to Gangotri in the afternoon, taking in the natural beauty on the way down.
  • Drive back to Haridwar, a journey that will take most of the day.
